The Lumber Jack

I can say with complete confidence now that you can use a sawsull to cut through just about anything.

Today my younger brother and I undertook the job of trimming back a tree that's been growing over the neighbor's fense. That was kinda fun, actually!

There's just something about the camadredarie involved with dropping pieces of a tree onto your brother's head. To read a different angle of the story, read my brother's blog http://jared.schichowr.blogspot.com

Taxes!

Ouch.

Apparently I did pretty good this year by the government's standards. First, let me say I've been working the whole time and made pretty good. I was hoping to get all my federally withheld money since I'm single and a bunch of other stuff that should have been in my favor.

So much for that.

I was getting about $800 back.

Oh, you HAVE to file as a dependant.

You get about $300.

You received the Alaska PFD? That's considered income so you're taxed for that.

You're down to receiving $6.

Your dad makes how much? Wow, not bad.

You may know pay the government $358 in addition to the $800 they've withheld.

Here's a picture of me sending the check away. Yes, I'm smiling. I figure this ought to make someone happy, somewhere. :)

If I Only Had a Brain...

As a lot of people can testify, I have a bad memory. I forget to do things, I forget dates, I forget people's names, and apparently I forget things people tell me.

I had a manager call me on the phone yesterday at work to tell the other manager to do something. Well, I forgot to tell him. Worst yet, I forget to return the manager's key when I used it and I forgot...I can't remeber what the other thing I forgot was.

Anyway, the second I realized I'd forgotten again, I finally caved in and bought a book about improving my memory. Who knows? It might help.

How good's your memory?

"You get to pick cotton!"

It's always a treat when my boss isn't busy and has time to think. He comes up with some of the funniest stuff!

He decided today that America is starting to resemble Soviet Russia. Each one of us will be assigned a job in which we will "volunteer" our services for a certain amount of time.

He called me over from whatever I was doing as he and one of my coworkers were talking.

"Comrade Goecker!" He said as he leaned back in his chair, "You've been volunteered to pick cotton!"

I grinned. "I hear they make pretty good money during harvest time."

"Would you just play along?"

The short and sweet is that he believes he and I will be assigned to harvest cotton because we're so loud. Me? Loud? I hadn't thought so.

Y'all see me pickin' cotton? :)
